About Me

My name is Tanisha Goveas. My interest in mental health piqued as a pre-teen. I began studying psychology at 15, and trained to be a therapist. l am passionate about making mental health and community a priority in people's lives. My work also extends into education, content, product, sex education, and DEI.

I believe that social, political, cultural and environmental factors impact an individual's mental health and that mental health services should be made more accessible to everyone.

I am also a lifelong student, constantly finding new things to learn about mental health and more. I love to read, take walks on the beach, explore different cities, sing, and listen to music.

About

YYelloww Brick Road

I've always loved stories, and the Wizard of Oz seemed like a metaphor for therapy.

Dorothy and her friends head out to find Oz, believing him to be the wizard who will solve all their problems.

A lot of people, when they first come to therapy, have a similar mindset. They believe that therapy is a magical solution to solve the problems in their life.

However, as Oz tells the group, they already have the ability to solve their own problems. Similarly, I help clients unlock the secrets they already know and find the inner strength to follow their own path.

My Approaches

My approach to therapy is rooted in a queer-affirmative, feminist, and intersectional framework, where I view each client within the larger context of their lived realities.

I integrate techniques from emotion focused therapy, narrative therapy, expressive arts, somatic therapy, and mindfulness, tailoring them to each person’s unique needs and preferences.

Central to my work is the belief that therapy is not about “fixing” individuals but about creating a collaborative, compassionate space to explore the client's inner world.

I emphasize curiosity, creativity, and gentleness in the process, while also acknowledging how social systems, power, and identity shape mental health.

Whether working one-on-one or in groups, my aim is to make therapy both accessible and deeply human, offering clients tools and perspectives that empower them to navigate life with greater awareness, resilience, and self-compassion.

Over time, I hope to help people reconnect with their strengths, reclaim their stories, and experience a greater sense of agency in their lives.
